Happy Birthday Robert! (Monday is the real one)

This is going to be long, so please just bear with me.

I come from a family with BOTH parents. I have a great Mom and a fabulous Dad. I have never once had to go through sharing my parents or having to switch weekends, or listening to them fight in front of us, for that I am SUPER lucky. I am so glad that I didn't have to go through that, that I can have two parents that are committed to each other and to their marriage and that they have built their marriage through the foundation and teachings of the church and have always kept their temple covenants. With that said, not everyone has had this growing up. My sweet husband for one. He grew up with unfortunate circumstances. He is the product of divorce. He has a GREAT GREAT Mother who I love and adore. She unfortunately had some unforeseen divorces. She married Aaron and Tyson's father (Roy) which is and was a great man (he has since deceased). However her second marriage was not so great in the least. I will not go into all that. I will however tell you about the man in which Aaron calls his Father (Dad). His name is Robert. He came into their lives when it probably didn't seem like their were any good men left, and he picked up the pieces of three boys (Aaron has a brother Crandall from his moms second marriage). Jodi not only found a wonderful companion who honors her and loves her, but most important he LOVES all of their KIDS. Together they had (have) 8 boys. Each loved as equal as the other. (No matter what Tyson says...lol...inside joke) Aaron considers this man his Dad. He is the one that got their biological Dad (Roy) back in the picture and made it possible for them to see him and spend time with him before his passing. Robert has been to every event, every graduation, every blessing, baptism, wedding, he goes above and BEYOND for his family. He is patient and loving and cherishes his family. This song posted below is one that Aaron immediately reminds him of his Dad so I just thought I would share this with you. So with all that said. Happy Birthday Robert (Grandpa).

He Didn't Have to Be: (Brad Paisley)

When a single mom goes out on a date with somebody new
It always winds up feeling more like a job interview
My momma used to wonder if she'd ever meet someone
Who wouldn't find out about me and then turn around and run
I met the man i call my dad when i was five years old
He took my mom out to a movie and for once i got to go
A few months later i remember lying there in bed
I overheard him pop the question and prayed that she'd say yes
And then all of a sudden
Oh, it seemed so strange to me
How we went from somethings missing
To a family
Lookin' back all i can say
About all the things he did for me
Is i hope I'm at least half the dad
That he didn't have to be
I met the girl that's now my wife about three years ago
We had the perfect marriage but we wanted somethin' more
Now here i stand surrounded by our family and friends
Crowded 'round the nursery window as they bring the baby in
And now all of a sudden
It seemed so strange to me
How we've gone from somethings missing
To a family
Lookin' through the glass i think about the man
That's standin' next to me
And i hope I'm at least half the dad
That he didn't have to be
Lookin' back all i can say
About all the things he did for me
Is i hope I'm at least half the dad
That he didn't have to be
Yeah, i hope I'm at least half the dad
That he didn't have to be
Because he didn't have to be
You know he didn't have to be

That is so sweet Kristen. They should be grateful for a daughter In-law like you. I don't know Jodi or Robert very well, but from what I do know...I like.

As Roy's sister (Aaron and Tyson's biological dad), I too am very thankful for Robert. While Jodi was married to the second man we weren't allowed any contact with the boys. I am very grateful to have all of you in our lives. I am so thankful Robert is such a great man and raised these two nephews of mine to be wonderful men. I know Roy is very proud of them, as we all are. Thank you for this post.
